Summer-2012

The following group of paintings were done one weekend this summer when Tadhg took the kids to Darien, CT.  I haven't painted since- but it was a nice little slice in time.  The blog is created to document the work.

two panels- Cox Reservation
The plan all along has been to do a third panel, and work back into these two, but I'm enjoying the "unfinished" quality.

On The River- Marshfield
The paintings above were done on the right side of the road, heading back from the cliff.  It kept threatening rain.  I worked quickly, and then a gust of wind dropped the bottom painting in the sea grass.

The Locker Room- oil on canvas

Happy Home Opener Red Sox Nation!
This is a painting that was born in 1997!  A great master reproduction of a Norman Rockwell original titled, "The Locker Room".  I revisited this painting this winter after years of ignoring it in my parents attic.  I avoided it.  It was a beast.  I was afraid of it.  I looked at Rockwell's extreme photographic detail and knew I couldn't even come close.  To take it on again meant I had to face my inadequacies as an artist.  In doing that I learned I am no Rockwell!  I tried to bring the canvas to a "finished" stage.  A stage that I could live with...The finished stage taught me that there is value in finishing what you start to your very best effort.  I can live with that.

On the Shore with Merry

A painting of a dear friend and his daughter.  Many people who have viewed the painting think it is Tadhg and Alex.  I wanted it to have a universal feeling of being any father with their daughter sharing a moment in time because it is those moments that are so precious that we want to remember forever.

Happy Valentines Day

Orchids- 11 x 14 Oil on Canvas
Some flowers are so beautiful, one wants to remember them forever.  These orchids were sent to Tadhg from Windover in loving memory of his grandma, a beautiful woman, with a radiant smile, who is now peacefully resting with her one true love.

Bow Rider

This is a large charcoal sketch of my nephew Sean from this summer while he was out for a ride on the Susie Mac.  I forgot how much I loved to sketch in charcoal.
